Kipuka Database Map launched April 25, 2013. The goal of the Database is to give instant access to more than 5,000 Native Hawaiian land awards, nearly 10,000 historic sites, and various ahupuaa boundaries.
The Database operates much like a geolocation search locator. Giving the user a virtual map to explore with various tabbed searching filters.
The Kupuka Database is using a MS SQL platform to house its instances. I believe the interface was designed using MS Silverlight in conjunction with ARCGIS.
All in all I am very impressed by BEI’s efforts in design and implementation. The Kipuka Database gives us the tools to rediscover the Aina in today’s modern digital landscape.
